Introduction


The climax of the Discoveries triggered profound intercontinental changes, with the Iberian expansion and humanization of the continental and island territories.  

The occupation process led to a new and complex network of transatlantic routes, particularly due to the increase in the volume of trade between the continents. This growth was in part responsible for the urban development and consequent diffusion of new ideas, traditions and pre-existent daily patterns. 

In this context, with the first indicators on globalization, it is essential that appropriate transdisciplinary approaches be taken to provide clarification on complex matters. This should be encouraged by networking those which meet key criteria, built in different professional backgrounds and scientific origins. 

The international congress “Transatlantic relations between Europe, America and the Atlantic Islands”, seeks to establish closer links between different fields of science, bringing together researchers with common research interests and goals, from several universities and research centers. 

The central objective of this project is to increase the debate on the archaeological, historical, economical and biological fields, specifically focused on the following topics:
